Ford Transit Steel Tipper Refurbishment

In addition to new build, Osborne offer refurbishment of existing bodywork.

Recent work includes a Ford Transit steel tipper.  Originally of all steel construction and painted finish the vehicle bodywork was showing signs of corrosion and ageing. commercial vehicle bodies

Osborne stripped off the existing dropsides and tailboard, replacing them with new alloy hollow plank sections. The dished and bowed steel floor was overlaid with Zintec steel sheet. The refurbished body will be long lasting, aesthetically pleasing and lighter, giving the customer additional payload.

Financially this option is more economical than the outlay for a new body. (Less than half price)

Fully Insulated and Refrigerated Dairy Body

Osborne Motor Bodies have recently completed a total refurbishment, including repairs to accident damage and bodyswop of a 'Safeload' fully insulated and refrigerated dairy body.

This was the first body of this type supplied to the customer back in 2001. Since then Osborne Motor Bodies have gone onto supply new bodywork, chassis and carryout refurbishments on a fleet that now numbers 6 vehicles.

In addition to the bodywork refurbishment Osborne Motor Bodies supplied the used Ford Transit 350 chassis cab which was sourced from a national fleet with full service history and guaranteed low mileage.

This combination illustrates the full range of services Osborne Motor Bodies offer to the Dairy Industry. Proof that initial Quality of build and Osborne capabilities gives customers long lasting and durable products, economically in these times of financial restraint.

Long-standing Supertrucks partner, Osborne Motor Bodies Ltd, has developed a unique suite of specialist bodybuilding skills. The Saffron Walden-based company is the UK's largest manufacturer of milk delivery vehicles and, as a Supertrucks partner, has added glass carrying vehicles to its repertoire. And, in addition to its milk float and glass carrying vehicle expertise, Osborne has a further speciality - the production of high value, one-off, custom-engineered vehicles for the utility sector and other transport markets.

Its latest bespoke vehicle is a unique, very high specification, 18 tonne gvw Scania fine art carrier. "This vehicle has been built to meet the most demanding customer specification. It has to provide the highest levels of load security, both in terms of preventing in-transit damage to its priceless cargo and providing the ultimate levels of anti-theft protection," says Anthony Osborne, director.

To meet customer requirements, Osborne has constructed a reverse Luton fronted 7.0m long box body on the left hand drive, Scania R310 air suspended chassis cab. Externally, the vehicle looks like it is fitted with a conventional dry freight box body, but it is actually a temperature controlled, high security body designed to carry everything from large oil paintings through to antique furniture.

The main body structure is built using high gloss 50mm insulated sandwich panels, for both roof and body sides. The insulated roof structure also incorporates Individual roof lights with heavy duty security grids. To enable a constant interior temperature to be maintained, a Carrier Supra 550 refrigeration plant, complete with mains stand-by facility, is externally mounted in the gap formed between the reverse Luton head and the Scania's cab top air deflector. This plant is able to heat or cool to maintain a consistent 12 degrees C internal temperature, regardless of ambient conditions.

Internally the body, which has heavy duty, non-slip, insulated Wisadec composite flooring is equipped with 15 rows of floor to ceiling soft wood lashing rails to provide optimum load retention for any size of painting or other antique.

Load access is via twin barn doors, which are mounted in galvanised steel rear frames. An Anteo full width, two tonne capacity cantilever lift is fitted at the rear. Also at the rear of the vehicle Osborne has provided personnel access doors on either side. A wide variety of sophisticated, state-of-the-art security systems are fitted to the vehicle. The operator has also specified the chassis with an additional set of batteries, complete with a separate split charging system.
